Spray Adhesive Manufacturers to Thrive with Revival of Construction Sector

Spray adhesives are specially formulated adhesives for commercial, residential, and industrial applications. In general, they are available in aerosol cans, spray cylinders, and in bulk for large jobs. They are also referred to as spray glues and are widely used in industrial verticals such as packaging, automotive interiors, and insulation drywall constructions.

Construction to Remain Key End-User Industry through 2025

Rapid expansion in the end-user industries such as packaging, construction, automotive and transportation, furniture, and textile and leather is fueling the demand for spray adhesives. In 2016, the construction industry registered the highest demand for the product. Some of their key uses in the industry are installation of carpet tiles, insulation of pipes, roofing membrane systems, and EPS foams. They can be bonded over a large range of fiberglass, building material substrates drywalls, and plasters.

Furniture is also one of the key application segments of spray adhesives. The demand for the product in this segment is anticipated to experience a sharp rise over coming years. Polyurethane is a highly preferred material for adhesives used in furniture applications. Glues manufactured using polyurethane prevent widening of cracks caused in wooden cabinets due to climatic changes. Aerosol glues find extensive applications in woodwork products such as cabinets and upholstery. These attributes coupled with technological improvements are augmenting the usage of polyurethane-based aerosol adhesives in the segment.

Some of the key sub-uses of spray adhesives are padding, mattress assembly, flexible foams, decorative cabinets, and high-pressure lamination to plywood and particle boards. ITW Polymers and Sealants exhibited its Sta'-Put lines of spray adhesives in WMS 2017, including Sta'-Put 80, a spray adhesive specifically formulated for bonding high-pressure laminate to particle board and various other porous and non-porous surfaces.

Market Insights

As per the findings of Grand View Research Inc., the global spray adhesives market is estimated to amount to USD 8.08 billion by the end of 2025. Revival of the construction sector in developed nations after the economic downturn in 2008 can provide a fillip to the market. Additionally, upswing in the construction of green buildings in these economies can support the growth of the market. Spiraling sales of furniture, owing to rising disposable income of people around the world, can also positively influence the market.

Asia Pacific will hold the leading share in the market throughout the forecast period (2017 to 2025). Some of the key players in the market are Ashland Inc.; H.B. Fuller Company; BASF SE; Henkel AG & Co. KGaA; and Sika AG.
