Nonwoven Geotextiles- What You Should Know about It?

July 09, 2019 :- Non-woven geotextile fabrics are created using a process termed as needle-punching, where filaments of synthetic fibers are spread out on a horizontal web. Nonwoven geotextiles are mainly used as multiple purpose fabrics that are felt-like in appearance. The key functions of these products are separation and filtration.

Material Type Segment to Contribute Substantial Demand to the Market

The major material type variants in nonwoven geotextiles include polyethylene, polyester, polypropylene, and others. The polyester segment accounted for the largest share in the market and will continue its dominance over the forthcoming period. The high strength of polyester boosts its applications in geotextile landscaping for filtration and erosion control. Furthermore, polyethylene (PE) is anticipated to observe growth due to advantageous characteristics such as UV and thermal resistance.

PE geotextiles are associable in various grades, such as Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and High-density polyethylene (HDPE), making them appropriate for numerous applications owing to different properties and compositions. Lower prices compared to its counterparts is expected to have an optimistic impact on demand throughout the forecast period.

Polyethylene fibers have high heat resistance which is anticipated to drive their demand in the high heat applications for construction industry. The saturation of polymer, however, is low due to its recyclability and low tensile strength as compared to polypropylene.

Polypropylene nonwoven geotextiles find wide-range of applications in construction industry, particularly in tile underlayment, roofing, acoustical ceiling, pipelines wrapping, and total insulation. The product has applications in agriculture as well as landscaping in root bags, turf protection, capillary matting, crop, weed control fabrics, and other types of covers. Consequently, the segment is anticipated to register a healthy CAGR over the forthcoming period.

Market Insights

The market is highly fragmented on a global level, while it is consolidated at regional level. The local markets are dominated by the presence of many similar-sized companies, resulting in an oligopolistic market.
