Technological Innovations to Spur Electric Kettle Growth

29 September 2020: An electric kettle is a metallic hot pot or tea kettle that has a spout, handle, and a lid and is used for boiling of water. This kettle is like the conventional kettle but is heated with the help of electricity. It has a heating element made of copper or other high resistance metal. These kettles were initially made of brass but now made from stainless steel. The power rating of the electric kettles is nearly 2-3 kW at 220 V.

Plastic to be the Fastest Growing Sector in the Forecast Period

On the basis of raw material type, the electric kettle market is classified as glass, stainless steel, plastic, and others. The stainless steel sector generated a considerable revenue in 2018 and is anticipated to observe significant development in the forecast period owing to its durability. Some of these steel kettles are made with scale filter to stop the limescale buildup inside the product. Manufactures of electric kettle are offering double-walled designs so that customers don’t feel the heat outside.

For example, a manufacturer in North America, Secura Electronics, offers 1.8 quart capacity, 100 % stainless steel, and double-wall coating electric kettle that boils water faster and keeps it warm for a longer period.

In addition, plastic sector is anticipated to be the fastest-growing sector in the forecast period. Plastic electric kettle is easy to carry and lightweight, which are the prime characteristics of plastic materials. This feature is anticipated to promote the use of plastic in manufacturing kettle products.

Moreover, increasing concerns over hazardous properties related to bisphenol-A (BPA) and strict rules by the governing bodies at global level would lead to manufacturers introducing advanced products in the market. For example, in October 2018, Malaysia-based JOVEN introduced BPA free electric kettle under the brand name JK1701P.

Market Insights

Companies are concentrating on novel product growth to get a competitive advantage in the market. Companies from diverse industry segments are also coming up with new variants of electric kettles. For example, in November 2018, Xiaomi introduced Mi electric kettle under MIJIA home products. Unlike the earlier version, which was a smart kettle, this type does not feature connectivity characteristics. In addition, the new kettle has a more minimalistic design and was introduced for nearly half the price of the earlier version. It can also stop electric connectivity if the water is absent inside the kettle.

Leading players effective in the electric kettle market include Conair; Aroma Housewares Company; Hamilton Beach Brands, Inc.; Cuisinart; Groupe SEB; Breville USA, Inc.; Chef's Choice; Koninklijke Philips N.V.; SUPOR; and bonavitaworld.
