Kidney Function Tests to Prevent Chronic Kidney Disease

High prevalence of kidney failure due to unhealthy lifestyles has led to increased demand for kidney function tests. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is nearly 8% rise in the chronic kidney disease (CKD) cases every year. Kidney function tests can determine the probability of CKD in diabetic and non-diabetics at early stages.

How it Works?

Kidney or renal function tests can determine the possibility of CKD and other kidney-related disorders. Different types of tests such as creatinine clearance test, furosemide test, and glomerular filtration rate (GFR or eGFR) test are used to determine functioning of renal system. Early detection of kidney failure can prevent the progression of such diseases. Hypertension, frequent urge to urinate, and swelling of hands & feet are the common symptoms of kidney diseases.

Developments:

Recently, the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved marketing of a noninvasive kidney function test. . EUROIMMUN US, Inc., a US-based company has developed this test for membranous glomerulonephritis (MGN) diagnosis. MGN affects the glomeruli in the kidney.
Proteomics International Limted, an Australian life sciences company, launched a prognostic test to determine the possibility of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). This blood sample test identifies at-risk groups and recommends treatment options to prevent prognosis of the disease.
