Transmission Fluids offer Better Vehicle Maintenance and Care

Transmission fluids are used for lubricating the components of a vehicle’s transmission for maximum performance. It can also serve as a coolant in cars that have automatic transmission. Apart from lubrication, transmission fluids also serve several other functions like cleaning and protecting metal surfaces from any damage, enhancing cooling function and rotational speed, and reducing high operating temperatures. Generally, mechanics advice to change these fluids every 60, 000 to 100, 000 miles; however, manual transmissions need frequent changes, usually every 30, 000 to 60, 000 miles. There are four major types of transmission fluids, namely, manual transmission fluid (MTF), automatic transmission fluid (ATF), continuously variable transmission fluid (CVTF), and dual clutch fluid.

ATF to have Maximum Demand as it Enhances Vehicle Performance

Continuously variable transmission fluids, which are formulated with stable viscosity enhancers and anti-wear additives, are widely used in passenger cars. Expanding Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) facilities manufacturing high-end passenger cars in various developing regions are likely to boost the CVTF segment growth. MTF has applications in particular manual transmission automobiles and thus, may witness sluggish growth.

The automatic transmission fluid is expected to be the fastest-growing segment in terms of revenue and volume. Wide scope of application in different vehicles is likely to be the key driving factor for this segment. Moreover, these fluids contain anti-wear and several other additives that boost vehicle performance while decreasing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Recently, Liqui Moly GmbH introduced new high-end machine called Gear Tronic for ATF changes. This machine and some special additives of the company allow mechanics to offer comprehensive oil service including flushing, cleaning, and filling.

Market Overview

According to a report by Grand View Research, Inc.; the global transmission fluids market is projected to grow at a healthy CAGR of around 3.4% during the forecast period (from 2017 to 2025). Rapidly expanding automobile industry in developing countries is likely to drive the product demand in near future. In addition, rising awareness about the benefits of technologically advanced fluids is also anticipated to fuel the global expansion. Exxon Mobil Corp.; Chevron Corp.; BASF SE; and Royal Dutch Shell PLC are some of the prominent companies in the global market.
